Ambient Machine
This device has slowly become my most popular build: a circuit bent cassette recorder with a Dirrrty delay unit. Of course depending on which tape player is available it is possible to have recording, line in or radio features, but the minimum controls are always the same:
· Tape Pitch control, usually to slow down the playback (it is also possible to speed up the playback).
· Delay Mix, to blend the wet delay signal.
· Delay Time that controls the time between repeats.
· Delay Feedback to control the amount of repetitions up to infinite.
· Two toggle switches to activate Pitch and Delay
These units work on batteries (9 volts for the delay and 2 AA batteries for the cassette) and allow you to play tapes and modify the pitch, sample different audio sources with the electret mic or the line-in jack (when featured) or play loops as a mellotron, but there are many different ways to use it in a creative way.
Available on demand, with multiple configurations for customization and make it look as you want. Here you’ll find some audio samples.
